Sergeant Hermogenes Marrero was stationed on the island of Vieques in the 1970s and now suffers from numerous debilitating illnesses.  For over 60 years the Navy used the small Puerto Rican island for weapons testing.  Now many independent scientists at Yale University, the University of Georiga, the University of Puerto Rico and elsewhere say toxins from those weapons have contaminated the island, but the Navy denies any responsibility.

Nannette Rosa is a mother of two teenage daughters, both suffering from cancer.  Hair samples taken from 1,300 residents of Vieques reveal that 80% of the island’s population is contaminated by heavy metals.  Children on the island are contracting rare cancers at significantly higher rates than on the main island.  The government has admitted to serious flaws in its previous studies that claimed that there was no contamination on the island.
